Colle Marturano (the ‘Marturano Hill’) divides in two the very long beach stretching along the coast for over one kilometre. When the sea catches the reflection from the sun and the rocks, especially at sunset, the seabed takes on a light bluish-purplish colour. Hence, the name "Costa Viola" given to our coast, which includes the municipalities of Bagnara, Palmi, Scilla and Seminara.
Noteworthy are also various monuments, churches and buildings of historical significance.
You can admire the Castello Ducale Ruffo, known to the locals as ‘Castello Emmarita’, which today, after restoration, regularly hosts cultural events; and Torre Ruggiero, dating back to the XVI-XVII century.
There is also a Fontana Garibaldi (Garibaldi’s Fountain), where the famous general stopped for a drink, after leaving the National Guard’s headquarters.
You can also enjoy Villa De Leo, built in Art Nouveau style, declared of cultural interest and placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism.
Both the town centre and the outer precincts feature historical churches, such as the ‘Chiesa Maria SS. del Monte Carmelo’ (Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel) and the ‘Chiesa di Maria SS. del Rosario’ (Church of Our Lady of the Rosary) where you can see the marble statue of ‘Padreterno’ (the Almighty), the Abbey Church of Santa Maria and XII Apostoli 1082-1117 (origins of the surrounding Church), of considerable historical-artistic interest protected under the single text on cultural heritage of 2004, located in the heart of the historic center, at the top of a wide staircase that connects it to the lower area and overlooks a street with a large viewpoint which is the Villa Comunale.
